Server Worlds

Minecraft World Map had its own game server from 2012 until March 2016. Players survived in the Play worlds, built on their own plots in Creative, and played minigames such as Mob Arena and Hardcore. These are the server's own worlds that survive: 15 downloads, 7.1 GB in all, free to download.

Find a plot owner in Creative Archive 1.8

Creative Archive 1.8 has 3,288 plots owned by 2,579 players. Each plot had a sign with its owner's name. Type a player name to see their plots, where each plot is, and the command that takes you there in the world.

To visit a plot: open the world with cheats turned on (see how to open an old world), then type the command in the chat. It takes you to the plot's sign. You can also see every plot in one list.

All server world downloads

Every file is a copy of the server's own world, as it was saved at the time. The Download button starts the download straight away; big files can take a while. Creative Archive 1.8 is at the top of this page.

How to open an old world

  1. Unpack the download. Zip files open on most computers. Files ending in .7z need a free program such as 7-Zip.
  2. Keep the download and work on a copy. Opening a world in Minecraft changes it, and a newer Minecraft version changes it for good. If something goes wrong, you can unpack it again.
  3. Use the Minecraft version of the time. In the Minecraft Launcher, go to Installations, choose New installation and pick the version listed for the world (for example release 1.8.9 for Creative Archive 1.8). You may need to turn on "historical versions" to see old ones. The 2012 worlds were last played on 20 September 2012, when Minecraft 1.3.2 was the newest version.
  4. Put the world in the saves folder. Each folder that holds a level.dat file is one world. Copy it into the saves folder of your Minecraft installation, start the game and choose Singleplayer. Some downloads hold several worlds; the Nether and the End may be in their own folders.
  5. Turn on cheats to use teleport commands. In the world, press Esc, choose Open to LAN, set Allow Cheats to ON and start the LAN world. Then commands such as /tp work.

Still lost

These server worlds were never saved anywhere we could find. If a copy turns up, the seed (the number that shapes each Minecraft world) shows whether it is the right world.

Please keep it safe and do not change it. Check the seed in the world's level.dat file against the seeds above. A way to contact this archive will be added here soon.
